On October 8th we had the pleasure of hosting an open house to show the community our recent renovations and newest service. In addition to our emergency youth housing, we will now be able to have long term housing for homeless youth ages 16 to 21…

For years I have heard the young women say they feel “completely alone and isolated” when they first find out they are pregnant. Now, I talk to homeless kids who say exactly the same thing. Yes, there are people around, but does anyone truly understand? Does anyone even care…

I’m sure we have all felt this way at some point in our lives, and we turn to our family and friends for support, but what happens when those people are not around or just don’t care? This is the common denominator for all the young people in our programs – YESS, Strong and Maternity.

To be told, during an inspection, “the programs are amazing, and we’d like to use Mary’s Shelter as a model for others, but we can no longer fund you” was just so hard to believe. It all comes down to having too many bedrooms now that the lower level is completed…

“It takes a village to raise a child” is a proverb that means that an entire community of people must provide for and interact positively with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment…
